Moving your existing site to Rivervo.

There's no self-service migration tool in the panel. Here's how to ask our team about moving your site, what to prepare, and how to do it yourself.

2 MIN READ

Moving a site from another host to Rivervo is something our team handles on request — there's no migration button or automatic import for websites in the panel. You have two routes: write to support, or move the site yourself.

Route 1: write to support

  1. Order the website (hosting) you want the site to live on: + Create → Website in the new panel.
  2. Open a ticket: Help → Write to us, and pick the website's project.
  3. Describe what you want moved: the site address, where it's hosted now, what it runs on (WordPress, another CMS, custom code), roughly how big it is, and whether email is involved.

Our team will reply with what's possible for your site and the next steps.

Don't paste passwords for your old host into the first message. Wait until the team asks for access, and change those passwords once the move is finished.

What to have ready

  • Access to your current host: a control panel login, or FTP/SFTP plus database access, or a full backup file
  • Access to wherever your domain's DNS is managed, so the domain can be pointed at Rivervo when the new copy is ready
  • A list of anything unusual: cron jobs, specific PHP versions or extensions, email forwarders, external services

Route 2: move it yourself

If you're comfortable doing it yourself, these guides cover each part:

The usual order:

  1. Copy files and databases to your Rivervo hosting (Website → Files or SFTP, Databases → phpMyAdmin)
  2. Test the new copy before switching (for example with a hosts file entry — see the WordPress guide)
  3. Lower your DNS TTL a day before the switch
  4. Point the domain at Rivervo: nameservers ns1.rivervo.com and ns2.rivervo.com, or an A record — see pointing a domain to hosting
  5. Keep the old hosting running for a few days until you're sure everything works

Moving email

  • Business email has a self-service import: project → Email tab → Mail import → New import. It copies mail from Gmail, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Yahoo or any IMAP server. See Migrating email mailboxes.
  • Mailboxes of the website can be moved with a desktop mail client (both accounts side by side), or write to support and ask.

Common questions

Will my site go down during the move? Not if the old site stays live until the new copy is tested and DNS is switched. The switch itself depends on DNS caching — see why DNS takes time.

Can I move a domain registration too? Yes, separately — see Transferring a domain to Rivervo. You don't have to: a domain registered elsewhere works fine with Rivervo hosting.
