Transferring a domain to Rivervo

Move your existing domain from another registrar to Rivervo. The process usually takes 5–7 days, with zero downtime if done correctly.

3 MIN READ

Transferring a domain moves its registration to Rivervo. It's different from just pointing DNS at us — a transfer changes who you pay for the domain registration.

You don't have to transfer a domain to use it with Rivervo hosting or email — you can just point it. See connecting a domain you registered elsewhere.

Before you start — requirements

  • The domain must be at least 60 days old (registered or last transferred at least 60 days ago). Registries refuse earlier transfers.
  • It must not be about to expire — don't start a transfer in the last few days before the expiry date.
  • The domain must be unlocked at your current registrar ("transfer lock" / "registrar lock" off).
  • You need the transfer code (also called EPP or authorization code) from your current registrar.
  • The owner email at the current registrar must be one you can read — the registrar may ask you to approve the transfer by email.

Some extensions can't be transferred to Rivervo; the panel tells you when you check the domain.

The transfer process

1. Prepare at your current registrar

  • Turn off the transfer lock.
  • Request the transfer (EPP) code.
  • Check the owner email address on the domain is correct and readable.

2. Start the transfer at Rivervo

New panel (rivervo.com/panel): + Create → Domain → Transfer to Rivervo. (If the domain already shows up as a project, you can also use Transfer to Rivervo on the project's Overview.)

  1. Enter the Domain and the Transfer code (EPP).
  2. Click Check. The panel shows whether the domain can be transferred and the price.
  3. Pay by card or from your balance.

3. Approve if asked

Your current registrar may email the owner address asking you to confirm the transfer. Approve it — that can speed things up.

4. Wait

Transfers usually take 5–7 days. The domain shows Transfer in progress in the panel meanwhile, and we email you when it's done.

During the transfer your domain keeps working — website, email, everything — as long as you don't change its DNS or nameservers during the transfer window.

What about my DNS records?

A transfer moves the registration, not the DNS. If your domain uses another company's nameservers (Cloudflare, your hosting company, etc.), DNS keeps working through the transfer.

If your domain uses the old registrar's own DNS, that DNS may stop working once the domain leaves them. Before you start:

  • Write down or export your DNS records, so you can recreate them at Rivervo after the transfer, or
  • Move DNS first — for example, point the domain to Rivervo nameservers (ns1.rivervo.com, ns2.rivervo.com) if your site is hosted with us, and recreate the records there.

Pricing

A transfer costs the price of one year of registration for that extension, shown before you pay. A year is added to the registration — so if your domain had 4 months left, after the transfer it has about 1 year and 4 months.

Common issues

  • "The transfer code is invalid" — usually a typo or an expired code. Copy-paste it directly from your current registrar, or request a new one.
  • "Domain is locked" — you need to unlock it at your current registrar first.
  • Approval email never arrived — check spam, and check the owner email at the old registrar.
  • Transfer failed — the panel shows the transfer as failed. Fix the cause (lock, code, 60-day rule) and write to support so we can help you retry.

Can I cancel a transfer in progress?

Not from the panel — there's no cancel button. If you need to stop a transfer, write to support right away (Help → Write to us, topic Domains & DNS). Whether it can still be stopped depends on how far the transfer has gone.

For unusual cases — premium domains, extensions with special rules, disputed domains — write to support before you start.
